A rod for reinforcing concrete has inclined ribs 4 the angle between which and a plane at right angles to the bar is less than the angle between the ribs and the axis of the bar, and the ribs 4 are joined by short ribs 3 the ribs in each groove being staggered relatively to the ribs in an adjacent groove. The inclined ribs may form a spiral.
