Oil-soluble tertiary amine salts

Abstract

Light or heavy lubricating oils may contain an aliphatic tertiary amine salt of a 3,6-endoxo-hydrophthalic acid, the amine having a radical of 12-22 carbon atoms attached to the nitrogen (see Division C2). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to the Specification 975,126.ALSO:The invention comprises oil-soluble aliphatic tertiary amine salts of 3,6-endoxohydrophthalic acids, the amine having a radical of 12-22 carbon atoms attached to the nitrogen, and including alkoxylated amines. Many amines are specified, including dimethyl, diethyl, dipropyl, dibutyl, methyl ethyl, methyl butyl and ethyl propyl 12 - hydroxyoctadecenylamine. Suitable acids are the di-, tetra-and hexahydro acids and their substitution products. The salts are herbicides (see Division A5) and are made from the amine and the acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to the Specification 975, 126ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise an aliphatic tertiary amine salt of a 3,6-endoxohydrophthalic acid, the amine having a radical of 12-22 carbon atoms attached to the nitrogen (see Division C2), in solution in an oil, such as tall oil, kerosene, lubricating oils, benzene and hexane. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 975,126.
