Video image filtering

Abstract

Distortion arises with video multi-tap filters because the edge pixels do not have adjacent pixels on at least one side for the filter process. To overcome this, extension data are added at the beginning and end of each raster line, thus extending the data into the line blanking interval HB. To create time for the extension data, the input video signal is written in a store and read out at such a rate that the horizontal blanking period is extended, HB', by using time from the vertical blanking period VB. (Alternatively, horizontal blanking time may be used to extend the vertical blanking interval VB''.) The reformatted video signals from the store are fed to a line store from where they are read in such an order to provide extension data such as repeated end points (Figure 2). <IMAGE>
